Our story
Every newcomer to the United States faces the same first questions. Where do I get an ID? How do I open a bank account? How do I rent an apartment, find a doctor, or enroll my children in school? And which office do I go to, and what do I need to bring?
The answers exist, but they are scattered across dozens of government websites, written in complicated English, and different in every state. Too often, people turn to whoever sounds confident, and some of those people are scammers or “notarios” who charge for help that should be free or that they are not allowed to give.
StartingPoint Hub was created to change that. Our founder, Komlan, knows these challenges firsthand. He came to the United States with a green card in October 2011, and finding reliable information was hard. He worked through every step on his own, searching for answers one question at a time, while working and going to school. Today he holds a master’s degree in Accounting Information Systems, and he wants to make the path easier for every immigrant who comes after him.
So we built one place that brings it all together: step-by-step guides for every state, written in plain language, and available in English, Español, 中文, Tiếng Việt, العربية, Français, हिन्दी and Português.
We stay in our lane. We explain the steps and point you to the official office or website for each one. We do not give legal advice, and we are not connected to any government agency. When you need help with an immigration case, we show you where to find licensed attorneys and free legal organizations.
Our name says what we want to be for you: a starting point. Not the whole journey, but a trusted place to begin it.
What we do
- Explain common steps for settling in the U.S., based on official government sources.
- Link you to the official office or website for each step.
- Review our guides regularly and show the date each page was last checked.
What we do not do
- We do not give legal advice or help with individual immigration cases. For that, see Find legal help.
- We are not part of, or connected to, any government agency.
- We never ask about your immigration status, and we never sell your information.
